First Match against EPWORTH
Well it was a tough assignment first up. Epworth's highest league side is in our 3rd league and so have a few strong players in their side. Here are the results:
No 1's Russell Powell 0 vs 3 Jeff Smithers
No 2's Len Bezuidenhoud 3 vs 1 Anton Immelman
No 3's Steve Collenbrander 0 vs 3 Ed Conradie
No 4's Laurie Butlin 3 vs 0 Rob Wermonth
We lost 7 - 6 which was not a bad result we feel. Russell had a tough match against the speedy Jeff Smithers, Len worked out the lefty / righty Anton and after the first game never looked back. Steve battled against Ed who moved beautifully around the court and Steve had no answer and Laurie took the doctor with ease - with deft cuts and drops, Laurie was on form as usual!
A good time was had by all after in the bar and we look forward playing them @ epworth - might come unstuck against their two school girls that supposted to play in their side.

Start Of 2011 Winter League
Hey there fellow squash enthusiasts!
This blog's aim is to document weekly the results of the 5 odd Howick sides in the Maritzburg Winter League. Hopefully this will be a resource for all the league players to remain informed of what happens week in and week out!
I captain the 3rd league side and so this will serve to document each weeks happenings in this side, so that on the return leg of each match, we will have the history as to who won (maybe some pointers on the opponents weeknesses) or lost and how they played etc.
We kick off our year with the following side: Me (Russell Powell) at 1, Len Bezuidenhoud at 2, Steve Collenbrander at 3 and the ever young Laurie Butlin at 4. I mention we start off with this side because due to injuries in the 1st and 2nd league, we never end up with the same side by the end of the league!
Our first match is the 12th April 2011 against Epworth. This is their highest side in the league so they have a strong 1 and 2. They also have the destinction of having the only ambidextrous player in the league. Anton is a lefty who drives the ball with his right hand beautifully! Quite a shock if you not expecting it!
I will post some pics of the team after Tuesday - we playing at home so hopefully we will have homecourt advantage!
